Richard H. Clark was born in Springfield, Georgia, on March 24, 1824. He was educated at Springfield Academy and then was admitted to practice law in 1844. He married Harriet G. Charlton on August 7, 1855 and, after her death, Anna Maria Lott. In 1862 he became a judge of the Southwestern Circuit, resigning in 1866, and in 1876 he became a judge of the city court of Atlanta.
